Learning Activity Objectives:

·        To learn and master the basic surgical techniques in knotting, handling sharps and suturing

·        To be familiar with different types of sutures, threads, and needles

·        To be familiar to different surgical instruments with safe surgical practice

·        To apply the different techniques on a practicing pad and animal model


Learning Activity Description:

This is an intensive, hands on, course that is divided into recorded lectures that can be attended as soon as you register for the course on your own pace, but please make sure that you attend them prior to the full day workshop. The full day workshop is going to be starting at 7:30 in the morning and will continue till the agenda of the workshop finishes, which is expected to end at 5 pm. The course is aimed to teach and help physicians in the surgical fields, ER physicians, Primary Healthcare physicians, nurses and all health workers that deal with surgical or trauma patients to master the necessarily and basic surgical skills.

The candidate will have the chance with one to one training and practicing different suturing techniques on animal models.


Learning Outcome:

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

·        Use of surgical knife

·        Use of scissors

·        Use of tissue forceps

·        Handling sharps in OR

·        Left- and right-hand instrumentation

·        One hand knotting technique

·        Two hands knotting technique

·        Instrumental knotting technique

·        Suturing under tension

·        Interrupted suturing

·        Continuous locked and unlocked suturing

·        Hemostatic stiches such as figure of 8 and square knots

·        Vertical mattress suture

·        Horizontal mattress suture
