Learning Activity Objectives:

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify and demonstrate the proper use of key laparoscopic instruments in simulated or clinical settings.

  2. Perform safe and effective abdominal access techniques during laparoscopic surgery, following standard procedural protocols.

  3. Assist a laparoscopic surgeon competently, anticipating surgical needs and demonstrating proper teamwork in the operating room.

  4. Recognize and troubleshoot common challenges in laparoscopic procedures, applying problem-solving strategies to maintain patient safety and procedural efficiency.

Learning Activity Description:

  • A two-day onsite course that includes lectures and a hands-on workshop for training on the use of special laparoscopic equipment.
  • In this course, you will learn about
  •  Laparoscopy instruments and engineering: we will explain all the laparoscopy instruments used and some details and important information in regards to how to maintain and troubleshoot them.
  • Abdominal Access Techniques: you will learn about the details of how to gain access and fully understand the concepts of accessing the abdomen will build knowledge about the insufflators and how to understand how they work as well as how to plan a good surgical approach in choosing places to insert ports.
  • Ergonomics and Psychology: we will explain the importance of knowing the science of ergonomics and how to protect themselves from work hazards and give them the ability to achieve the best task performance.
  • Patient selection and pre-op preparation:  we will discuss whom can we take for laparoscopy surgery and when to offer it to our patients
  • Post-operative care and complications from laparoscopy surgery: you will learn the common fears associated with laparoscopy and the important information in counseling patients.
  • Electro-surgery:  a comprehensive lecture that includes the details about the basics of physics that involve the principles of electrosurgery and then goes into details about all the modes of monopolar, bipolar, and tripolar technology, then talks about the ultrasonic technology and its features and benefits.
  • Ample time with Laparoscopy workshop training with table demonstration and pelvic trainers and training instruments.

Learning Outcome:

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  1. Identify and describe the components of a laparoscopy setup, including the tower, light source, insufflator, and telescope.

  2. Differentiate between various port entry devices, and demonstrate the safe use of instruments such as the Veress needle, Endoclose, dissection forceps, scissors, and needle holder.

  3. Explain and operate electrosurgical and harmonic devices, as well as irrigation and suction systems, used in laparoscopic procedures.

  4. Develop and demonstrate key psychomotor and coordination skills, including hand–eye coordination, manual dexterity, depth perception, and effective interaction between dominant and non-dominant hands.

  5. Perform basic laparoscopic tasks such as simulated bowel handling, knot tying, and both intra- and extra-corporeal suturing techniques with precision and safety.
