This course provides practical training in aseptic technique using the World Health Organization hand hygiene principles and the ANTT framework. Learners will develop the skills needed to prevent contamination and reduce infection risk during clinical procedures. Topics include hand hygiene, preparation and maintenance of a sterile field, catheter and wound care, appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and safe handling of sharps and clinical waste across healthcare settings.

- Apply the ANTT framework to identify key parts, key sites, and critical aseptic fields across a range of clinical procedures;
- Perform hand hygiene correctly, at the right moments, and with the right product for the clinical situation;
- Prepare a safe procedural environment and maintain a sterile field from setup to completion;
- Manage urinary catheters and wound care procedures using aseptic non-touch technique;
- Select and apply appropriate PPE based on procedural risk, and remove it safely without self-contamination;
- Handle, dispose of, and respond to incidents involving sharps and contaminated materials safely across all care settings.
- M1 - Foundations: Distinguish between aseptic and clean technique and apply the ANTT framework (key parts, key sites, and critical aseptic field) to clinical decision-making.
- M2 - Hand Hygiene: Apply the WHO 5 Moments and select the correct hand hygiene product and technique for the procedure and patient context.
- M3 - Sterile field: Prepare a clinical environment, check equipment integrity, and establish and maintain a sterile field throughout a procedure.
- M4 - Catheter and wound care: Perform catheter insertion and wound dressing procedures using ANTT, including correct glove change sequence, wound assessment, and daily catheter review.
- M5 - PPE: Select appropriate PPE based on procedural risk and apply the correct donning and doffing sequence to protect both patient and practitioner.
- M6 - Sharps and waste: Handle, dispose of, and respond to incidents involving sharps and contaminated materials safely, including adaptations for home-care settings.
