Learning Activity Objectives:

1- Teaching on the Go:

1-     Define educational/learning objectives.

2-     Formulate well-written educational/learning objectives.

3-     Identify and apply effective clinical different teaching methods.

4-     Develop an organized approach to clinical teaching by using:

a.   SNAPPS model

b.   One minute preceptor model

 

2- Giving Effective Feedback:

1-  Define effective feedback and describe its characteristics

2-  Identify barriers of providing effective feedback

3-  Apply an effective feedback approach and model

4-  Recognize how feedback can be integrated effectively into daily clinical practice.

 

 

3-  Trainees in Difficulty:

1-   Recognize the signs of a trainee in difficulty

2-   Describe the necessary steps to deal with a trainee is in difficulty

 

 

4-  Assessment on the Go:

1-  Define assessment in medical education.

2-  Identify principles of assessment in medical education

3-  Recognize Workplace Based Assessment (WBA) tools

4-  Demonstrate how to apply Mini-CEX, CBD, DOPS and ITER in the assessment of clinical competence 

5-  Understand definition, characteristics, and process of Mini-CEX, CBD, DOPS and ITER

 

Competencies:

1-   Review and clarify the CanMEDS framework competencies and roles.

2-   Analyze common teaching scenarios encountered in clinical practice in order to identify the specific core competency teachable moments contained within them

3-   Discuss different effective strategies for teaching and assessing the CanMEDS competencies in the clinical context

4-   Match bedside CanMEDS teachable moments with appropriate instructional methods to enhance core competencies learning in clinical education

5-   Discuss teaching the competencies in an integrated manner (integrated with each other and into a clinical encounter) 



Learning Activity Description:

To provide the clinical educators involved in postgraduate training programs at SCFHS (Residency and Fellowship training programs) with the essential skills in health professions education. Upon successful completion of the workshop, the candidate will be a SCFHS qualified recognized trainer in his/her training program.


Learning Outcome:

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

1-  Discuss the concept of curriculum and its importance.

2-  Formulate well-written effective learning objectives.

3-  Identify different effective clinical teaching methods.

4-  Demonstration understanding of the characteristics of effective feedback and its barriers.

5-  Discuss the principles of assessment and apply appropriate assessment tools in the teaching/training session.

6-  Recognize the signs of trainees in difficulty. 



Certificates

upon completion of Workshop and Post-Workshop Exam, Participant will be a certified Trainer at SCFHS

also, the participants will get another certificate from Medical Education without Borders
