Dr. Husam Abed, is a urogynecologist in private practice, Grand Rapids, Michigan, and a clinical assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Michigan State University since 2017. After receiving the doctor of medicine degree with honors from the Almustansiriya University School of Medicine, Baghdad, Iraq, in 1993, Abed completed a transitional-year internship and an obstetrics and gynecology residency at Hurley Medical Center/Michigan State University, Flint, from 2000-05 and a female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery fellowship at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, from 2005-08. Abed served as the director of urogynecology at Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, Michigan, from 2008-15 and later as the chief of urogynecology at the University of Mississippi from 2015-2017. The author or coauthor of 13 articles in peer-reviewed professional publications, Abed serves on the senior advisory board of the Fellow Pelvic Research Network and is an active member of the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons.
